# Create a Team

> Create a Vato team, find your way around the Team view and switch between your personal and team workspaces.

A team is a shared space in Vato. It groups members, the projects they work on, their team conversations and the machine that hosts Claude and Codex for everyone. This page shows you how to create one.

## Before you start

- You need a signed-in Vato Desktop. See [Install Vato and sign in](../getting-started/install.md).
- The person who creates the team becomes its **Owner**. Vato also shows the owner as the team's **Leader**.

## Create the team

1. Open the Team view. You can:
   - Click **Team** on the home screen.
   - Or open **Settings → Team** and click **Create team**.
2. Under **Create your team**, type a **Team name**, for example *Product team*. The name must be between 2 and 60 characters.
3. Click **Create team**.

Vato shows **The team was created.** and opens the team's **Overview**.

## Find your way around the Team view

The Team view takes the whole window, like Settings. The left column lists the team's sections. You only see the sections your role allows.

| Section | What you do there |
| --- | --- |
| **Overview** | See the team name, your role, the leader and the member count. |
| **Members** | Invite people, change roles and choose which models each member may use. |
| **Inbox** | Decide on approval requests from agents. |
| **Projects** | See the team's projects and who has a copy of each one. |
| **Access** | Set up the central host that runs Claude and Codex for the team. |
| **Conversations** | Find team conversations. |
| **Apps**, **Knowledge**, **Skills**, **Design**, **Audit** | Team apps, shared procedures, shared skills, team Vato Design projects and the audit log. |

Click **Refresh** at the bottom of the left column to reload the team. Use the back arrow at the top to return to where you were.

To come back later, open **Settings → Team** and click **Open Team management**.

## Switch between Personal and Team

Your personal work and your team work are kept apart. Each one is a workspace:

- **Personal workspace**: your own provider accounts and your private conversations.
- **Team workspace**: the models, conversations and resources your team provides.

The **Personal / Team** switch in the title bar changes the active workspace. Check it before you start new work: new conversations and shared resources follow the active workspace.

If you belong to a team, Vato may ask you to **Choose your workspace** when it starts. Pick **Personal workspace** or **Team workspace**.

> The Team view shows the team of your active workspace. If you are in your personal workspace, it shows your first team.
