How Vato Desktop finds, downloads and installs new versions on its own.
Vato updates itself. You never need to download a new installer to get the latest version.
When Vato starts
Each time you open Vato, the launch screen checks for a new version and shows Checking for updates….
- If an update is available, Vato downloads and installs it before opening. The launch screen shows Updating Vato… with a percentage, then Vato restarts on the new version.
- If no update is available, Vato opens normally.
- If the check doesn't answer within a few seconds, Vato opens anyway and checks again while it runs.
While Vato is running
Vato checks again a few seconds after it opens, then every 30 seconds. When a new version is found, a small button appears at the bottom of the Agent sidebar.
- Click Update followed by the version number, for example Update 1.0.34. Hover the button to see the new version and the one you have now.
- The button shows the download progress as a percentage.
- When the download is done, Vato installs the update and restarts on its own. If the button shows Restart, click it.
The button only appears when an update is available. There is no manual check button: to check right away, quit and reopen Vato.
Your projects, conversations and settings are kept across updates.
After an update
After some updates, Vato shows a What's new window once with the main changes. Use Next to go through it and Continue to close it. To read it again later, click Release notes on the home screen, the screen Vato shows when no project is open.
If an update fails
If something goes wrong, the update stops and your current version keeps working. Quit and reopen Vato: the launch screen tries again. After two failed attempts at launch for the same version, Vato stops retrying it when it starts.
