# Agentic Voice

> Talk to Vato to open, create and send conversations hands-free, and learn how pauses, wake words and your monthly voice limit work.

Agentic Voice is a voice call with Vato Desktop. You speak, Vato answers out loud and carries out your request in the app: it finds a conversation, prepares a prompt, sends it or changes the model.

## Start a call

1. Click the blue orb, **Agentic Voice**, in the rail on the side of the window.
2. Allow microphone access if your system asks.
3. Speak. The **Voice** panel shows the call status and a transcript of what you both say.

Audio is sent to OpenAI during the call.

In the **Voice** panel:

- **Mute microphone** stops sending your voice; **Unmute microphone** turns it back on.
- **End call** hangs up.

Hiding the panel or switching screens doesn't end the call. The orb stays lit while the call is active.

## What you can ask

| "Write this prompt: …" | Prepares the draft without sending it. |
| "Send it" | Sends the prompt from the conversation's composer. |
| "Switch to model X with high reasoning" | Changes the model or reasoning of the conversation. |
| "Rename this conversation to …" | Renames it. |
| "Stop this agent" | Asks the agent to stop. |

Voice doesn't touch your files, the terminal, permissions or deletion. If your request is unclear, Vato asks you to clarify.

## Pause after silence

When Vato has finished answering and you don't speak, the call pauses after about 3 seconds. The status shows **Paused · click to resume**, or **Paused · say "Hey Vato" to resume** when voice activation is on.

A paused call keeps its connection. Click **Talk to Vato**, or say the wake phrase, and Vato picks up right where you left off.

## Wake it with your voice

1. Go to **Settings → General → Voice activation**.
2. Turn on **Listen for "Hey Vato"**. It is off by default.
3. Say **Hey Vato** on its own, then wait for "I'm listening." before you give your command.

The first time, Vato downloads a local voice model of about 41 MB. After that, wake detection runs offline on your computer. No audio is sent until the call starts.

## Languages

Wake phrases depend on the language of the interface:

Vato's spoken replies follow **Settings → General → AI response language**. With **Auto (request language)**, it answers in the language you speak.

## Your monthly voice limit

Voice time counts toward a monthly limit on your account. When you reach it, the panel says **You have reached your monthly voice limit. It resets on the first day of the month at 00:00 UTC.**

> [!IMPORTANT]
> Time counts while a call is connected, not only while you talk. With voice activation on, Vato keeps a muted connection ready so it can answer faster, and a paused call stays connected. Both can count toward your limit. Click **End call** when you are done, or turn off voice activation, to stop it.

## Limits

- A call lasts up to 30 minutes, and you can have one call at a time.
- Agentic Voice runs in Vato Desktop only. The mobile app and the web have no voice commands.
- If you see **Agentic Voice is not configured on this server yet.**, voice isn't available for your account yet.
